UK Corporate Games Team Leader Orientation Day is a Great Success

Europe’s largest multisport festival for businesses, the UK Corporate Games is coming to Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire from the 21st-24th June. Preparations for the event are well underway and over recent days the Games team staged an exciting programme of activities for the Team Leader Orientation Day. Dedicated Team Leaders from organisations such as IBM, Lloyds Banking Group, Capital One, Safran Landing Systems and a host of others relished the opportunity to get their first glimpse of the range of venues that will be hosting the Games. The event attracted Team Leaders from Preston, London, Coventry, Swindon and throughout the UK as well as local business people from Staffordshire who were keen to learn more about how the Games can benefit their business.

The journey began at Fenton Manor Sports Complex before heading to the Conference Centre at the Alton Towers Resort for an opportunity to network with other colleagues, experience the great theme park facilities and hear more about the exciting programme on offer for the Games weekend.

Team Leaders then continued their action packed day to see an array of impressive venues which will be hosting the sport and celebrations for the Games across Stoke and Staffordshire.  Many were surprised by what was available in the region and all were seemingly impressed by the great indoor capacity at Fenton Manor, the incredible investment and regeneration that has taken place at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, the picturesque beauty of Trentham Gardens, the extensive facilities at Keele University as well as the fantastic location of the SuperCentre at the Staffs University Sports Centre and Student Complex (which is walking distance from Stoke train station). Other great venues visited on the tour included, Trentham Park Golf Club which is perfectly located for this popular sport in the Games and Fast Lane Karting, one of the best facilities of its kind in the area!

Very positive feedback has been received about the Team Leader event from organisations which have both recently joined the Games family, as well as those who have been supporting the events for many years which is all testament to how much the Games has to offer businesses as a complete package!

“We’ve had a fantastic day visiting the sites that will be home to this year’s corporate games, this being the 1styear Carphone Warehouse have entered, after today I’m happy we’re part of the corporate games family. Meeting people from companies that have returned year after year for the games and hearing how the games has positively impacted their business and employees was fantastic. As well as meeting everyone in the excellent support network offered by the Corporate Games team”.

– Sarah Brown, Team leader for Carphone Warehouse

“The event has been a wonderful day. The facilities look really fantastic and I’m sure the Games will be superb. The ride on Oblivion was brilliant and the lunch at Alton Towers was exceptional”.

– Bill Torch, Team Leader from Lloyd’s Banking Group

Games Director Ben Sedgemore commented “ We have all had a fabulous day and I know we have surprised a lot of people with the quality of what is available in this region.  The facilities are superb and in Alton Towers there is a really unique environment.  People are familiar with the Park’s outstanding reputation as one of the prime entertainment parks in the world but in addition to this, people may not realise that they have one of the best hospitality and conferencing programmes that we have seen.  We would be happy to recommend it to anyone based upon our experience”.

Alton Towers was also successful in being awarded the UK Corporate Games Closing Awards celebration too so guests and Games winners can look forward to that treat following the event.

The Games are getting closer every day! Hopefully your preparations and sports training is going well ahead of this eagerly anticipated Games in Stoke-On-Trent and Staffordshire.  The excitement is certainly there for the 23 sports on the packed weekend programme but we know many of you will be making equally committed plans for the awe-inspiring celebration that is the Great Games Party on Saturday the 23rd of June. The fancy dress theme this year is ‘Mystical, Magical and Masquerade’, so search out your fantastic fairy, mystical magician or your mythical beast costume…the choice is entirely yours.  As always a great prize awaits the winner.

We are also delighted to confirm that this year’s venue for the Great Games Party is Keele University Student’s Union.

The region has an array of terrific party destinations but in this Union we think we have secured the best of the lot!  This incredible venue has the flexibility and infrastructure to stage a huge spectrum of events, from formal dining and elegant soirees to live bands and performances from chart topping artists! Having benefitted from a recent £2.2 Million state-of-the-art redevelopment, this multi-award winning Union is one of the destinations most versatile venues. It has been ranked in the top 4 Student’s Unions in the UK.  The sound and lighting is top quality and this is a big multi-room venue with something for everyone-including great value drinks promotions at the multiple cash bars! Visitors in 2015 will remember that we hosted the legendary Great Games Party 2015 at the same venue, so we already know that this year’s party will be a massive, spectacular and unforgettable event.

The Ballroom, K2, The Bubble VIP room and the Outback areas will all be utilised for the ultimate party at this impressive destination. The K2 is going to be used for the R & B floor, where you can dance to the exuberant beats of the latest legends as well as moving to timeless Hip-Hop and smooth sounds.

The main room, (AKA the Ballroom) is going to feature the universally popular Official live band from the past few years – Indio Black.  These guys always deliver spectacular sets that bring the house down.  Plus their upbeat classic tracks are interspersed with some great sets from our favourite international funky house DJ – Stuart Ojelay who is really planning to get the crowd going as always!

Stuart has been part of the international House scene for almost 20 years and has performed on every continent in the world.
Long associated with the legendary Hed kandi, he’s headlined some of the World’s most glamorous events including Macau China, Punta Del Este Uruguay and Cape Town, South Africa, not to mention bringing in the New Year at Pacha, Florianopolis Brazil! Currently he is also an extremely successful, well-established DJ at ‘Word of Mouth’ events, which take place regularly.
Stuart mixes a variety of soulful warm ups, deep house, bass to sumptuous disco and main room anthems. From intimate clubs, beach & pool parties to festivals, his effervescent style never fails to serve up hands in the air action on global dancefloors.
On the production side, Stuart is becoming a household name with many tracks topping the worldwide download charts and was voted as a top artist of the Traxsource House Artists in the past years.
Stuart also mixed, compiled and produced the ‘Hed Kandi Taste of’ series album, which topped the iTunes download charts.

Here is a link:

The night will feature an array of amazing entertainment.  For those that have not heard the guys from Indio – here is some info on them.

Indio Black is a tight, professional four-piece covers band. Although from diverse backgrounds, the members all bring a vast experience and a shared passion for the music they play: an up-tempo, considered collection of popular contemporary rock, pop and indie.

Having wowed the crowds in recent years, the demand was very high to book this popular band again for what promises to be the party of the decade. With these guys we can guarantee you an incredible atmosphere, which will definitely get everyone in the party mood.

Plus if you are not sure whether this party will be everything that we are telling you it will be, feel free to have a quick look at a short video of the UK Corporate Games in Nottingham last year. Our parties are big, noisy and fun for everyone!

New Entrants Show Range of Opportunities Games Creates for Everyone!

It has been a busy start to the year at the Games Headquarters with a number of great organisations from all sectors signing up to participate. The Games has always been open to every kind and size of organisation so here are a few examples showing how this event is successfully doing just that!

bet365 could well be one of the largest local teams in the Games with a plan to enter 200 entrants across all of the sports.  Group HR Director, Bob Monro said ” at bet365 we really value our employees.  We all realise that our people are our biggest asset and we are delighted that we will have the chance to be strongly represented in the UK Corporate Games Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire 2018.  The Games is already starting to generate a buzz around our offices and we know our teams will benefit from the team-building aspects of the Games, as well as helping to improve the health and well-being of our colleagues in the workplace.  We know they will have a great time too”.

bet365 had a strong representation in 2015 but they are looking to come back with even bigger numbers for 2018 after such a positive experience for their entrants last time around.

Newcastle Borough Council are straight out of the starting blocks and setting the pace in signing up to their first UK Corporate Games. The organisation’s commitment to enter teams into the Games is a very clear signal around their mission to bring everyone together and to reinforce the confidence of their staff.   In addition to this, in September last year, a team from Newcastle Borough Council took part in the World Corporate Cup of Dragonboat Racing. Taking part in the event not only generated a huge amount of pride and enthusiasm in the team but they also caught the sporting bug and were determined to be part of the UK Corporate Games in June this year!

The Newcastle Borough Council Team Giving it their best Shot!

Cllr Mark Holland said, “Newcastle Borough Council is absolutely delighted as a key partner for the Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire UK Corporate Games 2018, to confirm that, working with partners we will be entering up to 60 people across a range of sports in to the event and encouraging staff, colleagues, family and friends to get fit and healthy. The Games is set to be a fantastic event and we see real value in supporting local people to join in and get motivated for what will be one of the best events in Staffordshire in 2018.”

Highlighting the accessibility and interest in the event from a different sphere, is Phil Fortun of Staffordshire Police.  This will be the 6th event that his constabulary have been represented in and everyone is hoping that it will be the best.  Phil said “Having first entered the UK Corporate Games in 2015 with a small Staffs Police squad that year, the feedback from those taking part was so enthusiastic and positive that we have taken part each year since then. The whole weekend is such a great package – taking part in your own sport, supporting colleagues in their events, networking and socialising throughout…and of course there’s the infamous fancy dress party!! I’m thrilled to be bringing our largest squad yet to the 2018 Games on home territory here in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent…bring it on!  Staffordshire Police are aiming to enter a team of 100 entrants so they should be a great sight to behold in their impressive green team outfits.
