TheCorporate Games World Headquarters is delighted to announce that it has agreed an exciting partnership with Alton Towers. The UK Corporate Games Stoke-On-Trent and Staffordshire 2018 taking place from the 21st-24th June, is all set to be a fantastic event but the venue for the Games Closing Awards Celebration had not been confirmed.
After months of deliberation by members of the Corporate Games Management Board and a review of venues across the area, it was unanimously agreed that the perfect place to stage the Games Closing Awards Celebration would be the spectacular Alton Towers. In addition, the resort will also host the Games Team Leader Orientation event, which provides individuals with an exciting day of activities to prepare them for this year’s Games. Any confirmed or potential Team Leader for the Games is eligible to attend the Team Leader Orientation afternoon, which is free of charge. All guests will learn more about the plans and get to see a number of the great venues selected for the Games.
As part of the sponsorship, Alton Towers have kindly agreed to offer impressive discounts for anyone connected to the Games – including the participants, their families and colleagues. Plus Games associates will also have a chance to reserve rooms from the suite of luxurious accommodation available at the resort.

About the UK Corporate Games Stoke-On-Trent and Staffordshire 2018
The UK Corporate Games provides an outstanding opportunity to enhance company togetherness and is an expression in real terms of many themes of corporate and individual well-being through sport, competition, fun and fitness. It is also legendary for its off-field parties, parades, prizes and celebrations. Competition is inclusive and accessible to all, with institutions, businesses, national and multinational companies, retailers, government agencies, partnerships and sports clubs all eligible to enter. Teams may include employees, colleagues, clients, family and friends. There are no qualifying standards. The UK Corporate Games is open to everyone.
Monday the 12th March will represent the 100 days to go marker for the UK Corporate Games Stoke and Staffordshire 2018. With a successful history of Games in the UK dating back to 1992, Europe’s largest multi-sport festival for businesses is set to be a tremendous weekend. Competitors have already registered for all of the 23 sports on the packed weekend programme and more than 4000 people from hundreds of organisations will be involved in the Games.
Large teams will come from companies like Vodafone and bet 365, with 200 entrants each representing them. These organisations are set to do battle on the pitches,courts and tracks of the region alongside all of the other company representatives.

However, organisers are keen to stress that the Games is for organisations of all size, kind and sector. Local universities and councils will be represented, members of the armed services, the NHS and the police will also be involved. Zuto an SME from Manchester will be entering 3 people into the Games and local children’s party providers Hire a Princess limited will be entering 1 tennis player.
Carol Bradley of Hire a Princess first participated in the Corporate Games in London in 1992 and played tennis for the British Airways team. Carol said “I really enjoyed the spirit of the Games, was thrilled to play at Queens Club and Wimbledon, and had the opportunity to meet Virginia Wade OBE who presented prizes. I like to return to the UK Corporate Games whenever possible, especially this year in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, on my home soil. I was honoured to meet Gordon Banks OBE, Games Patron, at the launch ceremony. Whatever your sporting ability this is the chance you get to ‘have a go’. The Closing Awards Celebration of the UK Corporate Games Nottingham was staged at the Senate Chamber at the University of Nottingham.
The great and the good of the World Corporate Sport Community were joined by representatives of partner organisations, sponsors and team leaders from across the UK. The Lord Mayor of Nottingham Cllr Michael Edwards was on hand to present the Sport For Life Grand Award to Vodafone and the Sheriff Of Nottingham Cllr Glyn Jenkins presented the coveted Medalist award to Vodafone too. Vodafone was the most successful organisation in the Games this year, as they scooped an impressive 9 of the 32 prestigious Awards on offer.
The Lord Mayor of Nottingham presents the Sport For Life Grand Award to Fung-Ping Cheung-Knight of Vodafone UK who entered an impressive 293 entrants into the Games in Nottingham.
Major Blue Chip Organisations like IBM, ASDA, EY, Accenture and Willis Towers Watson scooped awards but local organisations like Freeths, Nottingham Forest and Torse also secured recognition in a variety of events.
The evening kicked off with a drinks reception in the impressive surroundings with some great memories of the Games discussed.
Analysts suggest that the Games generated around £3.8 Million pounds of economic impact for the local economy as well as helping to promote Nottingham as a centre for sport, business and tourism. Ben Sedgemore, Games Director for Nottingham 2017 said ” there is no doubt that Nottingham was an incredible destination for the Games. The City is blessed with fantastic facilities for every sport on our programme. Powerful local businesses of all size and kind supported the Games by getting their staff involved and they enjoyed the competition with busineeses from across the UK. The feedback suggests that they all had an amazing experience and it was undoubtedly one of the best Games ever staged on these shores. The David Ross Sports Village is one of the most impressive sports facilities the Games has been staged at worldwide and there are some wonderful sports administrators in the area too. There is no doubt that Nottingham is powering forward and we are proud that we have been able to contribute to the city’s journey.”

It has been a busy start to the year at the Games Headquarters with a number of great organisations from all sectors signing up to participate. The Games has always been open to every kind and size of organisation so here are a few examples showing how this event is successfully doing just that!
bet365 could well be one of the largest local teams in the Games with a plan to enter 200 entrants across all of the sports. Newcastle Borough Council are straight out of the starting blocks and setting the pace in signing up to their first UK Corporate Games. The organisation’s commitment to enter teams into the Games is a very clear signal around their mission to bring everyone together and to reinforce the confidence of their staff. In addition to this, in September last year, a team from Newcastle Borough Council took part in the World Corporate Cup of Dragonboat Racing. Taking part in the event not only generated a huge amount of pride and enthusiasm in the team but they also caught the sporting bug and were determined to be part of the UK Corporate Games in June this year!

Highlighting the accessibility and interest in the event from a different sphere, isPhil Fortun of Staffordshire Police. This will be the 6th event that his constabulary have been represented in and everyone is hoping that it will be the best. Phil said “Having first entered the UK Corporate Games in 2015 with a small Staffs Police squad that year, the feedback from those taking part was so enthusiastic and positive that we have taken part each year since then. The whole weekend is such a great package – taking part in your own sport, supporting colleagues in their events, networking and socialising throughout…and of course there’s the infamous fancy dress party!! I’m thrilled to be bringing our largest squad yet to the 2018 Games on home territory here in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent…bring it on! Staffordshire Police are aiming to enter a team of 100 entrants so they should be a great sight to behold in their impressive green team outfits.

The Games programme started in Transylvania in January before moving through Europe, Asia and South America, into Africa, finally culminating with theWorld Corporate Games in Houston Texas returning to the USA (for the first time for more than 25 years) and closing 2017 with the largest Games of the year in Melbourne Australia. What a year that was!
Whether you ran, walked, raced, played, partied or just enjoyed the celebrations we hope you had as wonderful a time as we did. They certainly partied hard in Nottingham in the UK-even when the lights came on!

Companies in the Games, come in all shapes and sizes and from all industry sectors, so whether you are massive multinational, a single owner enterprise or something in-between, the Games is for you!
Aspire Housing has recently confirmed a desire to send a team of at least 10 into the Games. Sinead Butters – Chief Executive or Aspire Housing said “We’re committed to investing more into our local communities and we’re delighted to be participating in the Corporate Games when it returns to Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire next year. This is a real opportunity for us to showcase our sporting venues and the region as a whole to the world, and I’m delighted colleagues from across Aspire Housing and PM Training will be a part of it.” This point was reiterated by Tracey Johnson – Executive Director – Corporate Services at Aspire Housing, “We’re delighted to be supporting the Corporate Games again next year. Newcastle Borough Council is also submitting between 30-60 entrants as they know the Games will be terrific for morale, workforce well-being and productivity. However, the largest team from a local organisation to date is bet365 who recently signed up for 200 entrants.
