Large teams will come from companies like Vodafone and bet 365, with 200 entrants each representing them.  These organisations are set to do battle on the pitches, courts and tracks of the region alongside all of the other company representatives.

“At bet365 we really value our employees.  We all realise that our people are our biggest asset and we are delighted that we will have the chance to be strongly represented in the UK Corporate Games this year.  The Games is already starting to generate a buzz around our offices and we know our teams will benefit from the team-building aspects of the Games, as well as helping to improve the health and well-being of our colleagues in the workplace.  We know they will have a great time again too”.

A number of other influential organisations are signed up with teams of around 100 like Accenture, Intel, Places for People, Knights 1759, Willis Towers Watson and Brose.

However, organisers are keen to stress that the Games is for organisations of all size, kind and sector.  Local universities and councils will be represented, members of the armed services, the NHS and the police will also be involved.  Zuto an SME from Manchester will be entering 3 people into the Games and local children’s party providers Hire a Princess limited will be entering 1 tennis player.

Carol Bradley of Hire a Princess first participated in the Corporate Games in London in 1992 and played tennis for the British Airways team.  Carol said “I really enjoyed the spirit of the Games, was thrilled to play at Queens Club and Wimbledon, and had the opportunity to meet Virginia Wade OBE who presented prizes. I like to return to the UK Corporate Games whenever possible, especially this year in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, on my home soil. I was honoured to meet Gordon Banks OBE, Games Patron, at the launch ceremony. Whatever your sporting ability this is the chance you get to ‘have a go’. It is a positive, healthy and fun competition in the most friendly location – Stoke-on-Trent!”

“With only 100 days to go and over 1,000 local employees already signed up, excitement for the games is really building.
The last games were a huge success giving thousands of people from top UK companies the chance to visit and see the huge economic opportunities available in the area.  We already know what a great place it is to live, work and invest in and this is another opportunity to let the rest of the country know.  It’s also wonderful to see so many of our own local companies taking part and I’m sure they’ll reap the many benefits to be gained.”

-Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth at Staffordshire County Council

As well as the packed weekend of sport that Games participants have come to expect, Okinawa gave all of the entrants an excellent array of celebrations with the Grand Parade of Athletes, Great Games Party and Closing Awards particular highlights.  These components were brilliantly staged at the purpose built Celebration Zone that was constructed for the weekend in the grounds of the Official Games Headquarters Hotel, the Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort.

Entrants came from across the world to join with local business participants to enjoy the ultimate mix of sport, business and tourism.  Companies were represented that had traveled from the UK, Malaysia, Hong-Kong, Singapore, America, Taiwan and many more so, there was a truly international feel to the proceedings which was been really pleasing for the host of local supporters of the Games.

Mr Bill Torch, Team Leader from Lloyds Banking Group brought a group of 19 from the UK to be involved and he was overwhelmed by the welcome they received from the Games Hosts.  Bill sent this message to the Team there; “The Games were a fantastic success and you all should be very, very proud of what you achieved. The Games Party on Saturday and the Awards Presentation on the Sunday were the best we have ever been to. Both were an excellent experience and something we will not forget. On behalf of the team I would like to say that the people of Okinawa are lovely and made us feel very relaxed and very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Both the hotels, the Vessel and the Hilton were brilliant, but the Hilton was out of this world. I cannot express how much we all enjoyed our time in Okinawa and we all hope to return in future”.

Mr Torch and his team were successful in winning the Division 3 Award and also the Badminton Sports Championship as well as a host of medals.

As always any first place medalist at any Corporate Games automatically gains complimentary entry into the World Corporate Games later in the year.  For those that don’t already know, the destination for that Games will be Mexico City from the 12-15th November,  so Mr Torch and some of his team could be in for a treat in November too…
