UK Corporate Games Team Leader Orientation Day is a Great Success

Europe’s largest multisport festival for businesses, the UK Corporate Games is coming to Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire from the 21st-24th June. Preparations for the event are well underway and over recent days the Games team staged an exciting programme of activities for the Team Leader Orientation Day. Dedicated Team Leaders from organisations such as IBM, Lloyds Banking Group, Capital One, Safran Landing Systems and a host of others relished the opportunity to get their first glimpse of the range of venues that will be hosting the Games. The event attracted Team Leaders from Preston, London, Coventry, Swindon and throughout the UK as well as local business people from Staffordshire who were keen to learn more about how the Games can benefit their business.

The journey began at Fenton Manor Sports Complex before heading to the Conference Centre at the Alton Towers Resort for an opportunity to network with other colleagues, experience the great theme park facilities and hear more about the exciting programme on offer for the Games weekend.

Team Leaders then continued their action packed day to see an array of impressive venues which will be hosting the sport and celebrations for the Games across Stoke and Staffordshire.  Many were surprised by what was available in the region and all were seemingly impressed by the great indoor capacity at Fenton Manor, the incredible investment and regeneration that has taken place at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, the picturesque beauty of Trentham Gardens, the extensive facilities at Keele University as well as the fantastic location of the SuperCentre at the Staffs University Sports Centre and Student Complex (which is walking distance from Stoke train station). Other great venues visited on the tour included, Trentham Park Golf Club which is perfectly located for this popular sport in the Games and Fast Lane Karting, one of the best facilities of its kind in the area!

Very positive feedback has been received about the Team Leader event from organisations which have both recently joined the Games family, as well as those who have been supporting the events for many years which is all testament to how much the Games has to offer businesses as a complete package!

“We’ve had a fantastic day visiting the sites that will be home to this year’s corporate games, this being the 1styear Carphone Warehouse have entered, after today I’m happy we’re part of the corporate games family. Meeting people from companies that have returned year after year for the games and hearing how the games has positively impacted their business and employees was fantastic. As well as meeting everyone in the excellent support network offered by the Corporate Games team”.

– Sarah Brown, Team leader for Carphone Warehouse

“The event has been a wonderful day. The facilities look really fantastic and I’m sure the Games will be superb. The ride on Oblivion was brilliant and the lunch at Alton Towers was exceptional”.

– Bill Torch, Team Leader from Lloyd’s Banking Group

Games Director Ben Sedgemore commented “ We have all had a fabulous day and I know we have surprised a lot of people with the quality of what is available in this region.  The facilities are superb and in Alton Towers there is a really unique environment.  People are familiar with the Park’s outstanding reputation as one of the prime entertainment parks in the world but in addition to this, people may not realise that they have one of the best hospitality and conferencing programmes that we have seen.  We would be happy to recommend it to anyone based upon our experience”.

Alton Towers was also successful in being awarded the UK Corporate Games Closing Awards celebration too so guests and Games winners can look forward to that treat following the event.

The Games is open to everyone regardless of the size of the Organisation being represented and there really is something for everyone in the packed 23 sport, business and celebratory programme
